  1. How did it go so many years? There had to have been others in the same situation. Were they sending everyone to programs for severe MR/behavior?

  2. Oh, I am sure there are and were many in the same situation however, it took a lot of work and planning and meetings to get to the point we did and I was fortunate enough to be volunteering at Children’s Hospital Boston and overseeing my son’s home program as I worked with the Mayor to create this program. A lot of parents I spoke with just couldn’t fight the system for as long as I did. They get burnt out trying to justify why they want there child/ren to get the services they are entitled to.

Our goal is to give these “older” children the tools to enable them to be productive, functional young adults. With the technology available today we can achieve this.

I will be forever grateful for Mayor Menino and his staff for giving my son and others to follow the chance to believe in themselves. I wish all people could be as open and giving and understanding as Mayor Menino has been. Our family and I know I speak for others will be forever grateful.

  3. Question, are you doing the iTouch presentation at the Ladders conference? Would you be willing to share your informaition with me?

    Bernadette

  4. Hi Bernadette,

I will be sharing a variety of ideas using the various iPods and iPhone. Of, course I would be willing to share. I am still working on the presentation as I have 2 that day (Howard Shane & I are also co-presenting.)

I would be more than happy to post my handouts on line.

    Hope this helps!

    Best,
    Marie
